Cosmetology Teacher Training and Continuing Education

Occupational Objectives

The objective of the Teacher Training program is to prepare students with all of the fundamentals of providing cosmetology instruction in a licensed public or private cosmetology school. Students of this course must possess a high school diploma or GED and must have their cosmetology license. The program prepares students with the knowledge and skills to pass the State Board exam to become a licensed Cosmetology Teacher and obtain employment in the cosmetology training industry.

Training Description

The Teacher Training curriculum requires 800 clock hours for graduation. Upon successful completion of this program the graduate will be awarded a Teacher Training certificate and will be prepared to take the state licensure exam. This program includes 150 hours of instruction on teaching methods and laws governing cosmetology. The remaining 650 hours include practice teaching under the guidance and supervision of a licensed cosmetology teacher in a real classroom with real students. Instructional methods used are lectures, hands-on projects, step-by-step methods, objective based learning, group activity coordination, demonstrations, and clinic/student salon activity management. Career opportunities for licensed graduates include without limitation, Teacher, Lead Instructor, Specialty Product Educator, Director of Education, and School Director.
